Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.
Trivias
The first trailer for this movie played before Transformers (2007). It showed a giant explosion in the heart of New York City and the Statue of Liberty's head being thrown down a street. It was shot with a hand-held video recorder. There was no title.
The theatrical trailer first played in front of pre-screenings of Beowulf (2007) on November 15, 2007.
Jason (Mike Vogel) can be seen wearing a Slusho t-shirt in the movie trailer. It's visible when he leans toward the camera to ask if anything can be seen from the roof after watching the news broadcast. Slusho is a drink from J.J. Abrams' show "Alias" (2001) as well as this film's codename.
Filming in Los Angeles was done under the fake production title "Slusho", while shooting in New York (in 33 days until August 8, 2007) was done under the fake production title "Cheese".
