Plot Summary
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Jack Skellington is the King of Halloween, but is about to discover something news. Jack becomes bored and tired with the same routine every year, and takes a walk into the woods, in which he discovered a door leading to Christmas time.
Christmas time is amazing to Jack, but he doesn't fully understand the concept. Now, he want to bring Christmas to everyone, and is planning to take over the job from Santa. Problem is, the real world isn't used to Jack's lifestyle, and it's not going to go to plan for Jack at all.
Goofs
The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Continuity: As Jack ponders the holiday doors, the Easter door appears to the right of the Thanksgiving door. Later as he approaches the Christmas door, it is now to the right of the Thanksgiving door and the turkey is facing the other way (the first shot was probably flipped).
- Continuity: When Lock, Shock and Barrel are planning to kidnap Santa they grab a black cloth bag with orange pumpkins. Later when they have caught the Easter Bunny and then when they get Santa the bag is much larger and made of plastic.
- Continuity: Near the end of the movie, when Jack puts a kid on the Mayor's hat, he's doing it from the left, both his arms are on the left of the hat. In the next shot, he's holding the kid with his arms from both sides of the hat.
- Continuity: When Jack's telling the people about Christmas Town, some of them keep switching places. The "Clown with the tear-away face" is in the first line at the start, then later in the second line, then back in the first line, only on the other side; the guy with snake fingers goes to the first line to the second one, then back again; the werewolf switches place with the devil, etc.
- Continuity: When Sally makes a basket of food for Jack she pushes the cork all the way into the bottle. When Jack opens it the cork is sticking out.
- Continuity: When the cannons are being raised to shoot at Santa Jack, there are search lights in the background. When the cannons start firing, the positions of the lights jump, and they stop their sweeping motion.
- Continuity: When Sally is raising the basket up to Jack's window Jack is writing on the chalkboard. When he stops writing the chalk he is holding disappears.
- Continuity: When Sally is picking the petals off of the dead flower on top of the spiral hill at the end of the movie, the petals disappear when she drops them.
- Continuity: When the citizens of Halloween Town gather up for the town meeting, the megaphone on the roof of the Mayor's car changes position during the clip.
- Continuity: When Jack opens the Christmas door, he places his right hand on the third from the bottom tree bough. In the reverse shot, his right hand is on the bottom tree bough.

The Nightmare Before Christmas
- In the German version, Sally was dubbed by Nina Hagen.
- In the Italian version, Jack is voiced over by Renato Zero.
- In the song, "This is Halloween," the lyrics "... tender lumplings everywhere...” refers to "Tender Lumplings," a song done by composer Danny Elfman when he was with Oingo Boingo.
- Behemoth is based on B-movie actor/Swedish wrestler Tor Johnson.
- Jack makes his first lengthy appearance in Beetle Juice (1988) on top of Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton)'s carousel hat towards the end when Beetlejuice rises out of the floor, after summoned by Lydia (Winona Ryder). Although this was Jack's longer appearance, he actually first appeared in Tim Burton's "Vincent" (1982), in minute 4:45, even if it is a very brief appearance.
- The cat from Tim Burton's first film, Vincent (1982) is present in the beginning of the film. It's the cat that jumps onto the garbage can.
- The teaser trailer tells us that the film was originally intended to by released under the Walt Disney Pictures banner, playing the movie heavily as the next generation of filmmaking following in the proud tradition of Walt Disney. By the time the theatrical trailer was released, the release label had changed to Touchstone Pictures, an alternate designation of the Walt Disney Studios. Michael Eisner, the then CEO and Chairman of The Walt Disney Company, found the film to be 'too dark for kids' and had it moved to their Touchstone Picture banner. In October 2006, the film was re-released in 3-D under the Walt Disney Pictures banner.
- This was the first movie to ever be fully animated using the stop-motion technique that was favored by Tim Burton for special effects in some of his other movies for its surreal quality. The animators received Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects as a result, but lost to ILM who created the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park (1993)
- Oogie Boogie is inspired by Cab Calloway, who provided character voices and musical numbers for several Fleischer Bros. cartoons; he and Santas Claus quote dialog from the Betty Boop short "The Old Man of the Mountain", when Santa asks,(quoting Betty's line) "What are you going to do now?", and Oogie returns Calloway's(as the Old Man) "Goin' do the best I can...”
- There are only two shots in the entire film that were filmed at normal speed (24fps), one is the opening overhead shot of the trees in the forest and the other is the bugs falling into the molten pit in Oogie Boogie's lair.
