Plot Summary

Main Hoon Na

Major Ram Prasad Sharma yearns to see the ambitious project Mission Milaap become a reality. The mission may prove to be the dawn of a new tomorrow, ending the long-standing enmity between two countries. But, some forces do not want that dawn to come. One of them is Raghavan who will do anything, including threatening the life of General Amarjeet Bakshi's daughter Sanjana. To protect Sanjana, Ram Prasad poses as a student at her school.

But, Ram Prasad also has another agenda. He must fulfill the dying wish of his martyred father Brigadier Shekhar Sharma. This task involves intense emotions and long-standing misunderstandings, and strangely, the key to its success also can be found at Sanjana's school. As Ram Prasad Sharma struggles to carry out his dual missions of love and violence, his only mantra is "Main Hoon Na!"Laxman Prasad Sharma lives with his mother, Madhu, in a small town in India. He studies in a local college and has a sweetheart in tom-boyish Sanjana Bakshi.

The College gets a new student when Ram joins the college. Initially there is considerable friction between Ram and Lakhsman, which soon turns to close friendship. Lakhsman even lets out a room in his house to Ram for rent, and he also introduces him to his mother. Then all hell breaks lose in the college campus when a renegade former Indian army soldier, Raghavan Datta, holds about a 100 students hostage to stop the prisoner swap between India and Pakistan. Raghavan also exposes Ram for what he really is -

Goofs

Main Hoon Na
  • Continuity: When Brigadier Shekhar Sharma is introduced, he is holding his army uniform cap in his hand. In the next shot, he is wearing the cap and then takes it off again.
  • Revealing mistakes: In the final fight between Ram and Radhava, several of the punches obviously do not connect.
  • Continuity: When luck falls of the roof, and grabs the gutter, it bends. In the next angle, it is straight again. Again in the next angle, it is bent.
  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): During the T.V interview scene, the anchor introduces the character played by Kabir Bedi as "Commander in Chief" of the Indian Army. The "Commander in chief" of the Indian Army is always the President of India. The character played by Kabir Bedi is more likely to be the "Chief of Army Staff".

Trivias

Main Hoon Na
  • Hrithik Roshan was signed for the role of Lakshman, and even shot for a day. After the success of Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), Farah Khan did not want an actor so popular.
  • Aishwarya Rai was offered the role of Chandni but due to problems with Shahrukh Khan, she was signed off.
  • Amisha Patel was considered for the role of Sanjana.
  • Sohail Khan was considered for the role of Lucky.
  • Farhan Akhtar was considered for the role of Lucky.
  • Farah Khan wanted to have re-created Rahul Dev Burman music in the movie, but she chose not to, because the movie Dil Vil Pyar Vyar (2002) had done the exact same thing. She then told music director Anu Malik to make the music R.D. Burman style.
  • The film is a takeoff on the Ramayana, as the names show: Ram, Lucky (Lakshman) and Raghavan (Ravana). Also, as a reference, in the movie, Lucky (Lakshman, played by Zayed Khan) mentions that the house would feel like a Mahabarat if he kept his name as Lakshman. Then his brother and mother correct him by saying Ramayan.
  • The carriage Shahrukh Khan is riding when chasing the assassins has the name Dhanno written on it. This is a reference to Sholay (1975), where Hema Malini's horse is named Dhanno.
  • Farah Khan wanted Naseeruddin Shah to play Raghavan, but his work on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) prevented such a large role. Hence, his special appearance as Shahrukh Khan's father.
  • Nana Patekar was wanted to play Raghavan by Farah Khan but she was scared to approach him.
