Plot Summary
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) has just lost his wife, Tina (Rani Mukherjee), due to childbirth. His daughter, Anjali (Sana Saeed) and his mother (Farida Jalal) is all he is left with. Tina has left eight letters for her daughter to read on every birthday. The eighth one is the most important. Anjali reads the letter and Tina discusses in the letter about his best friend, Anjali (Kajol).
There is an important task that Tina has asked her daughter to carry out. It's upto Anjali to do it.Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, is the story of Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) and Anjali (Kajol). Both of them students at St. Xavier's College. Anjali being a tomboy gets along very well with Rahul and the other boys. Rahul and Anjali are also the best of friends. Being so close to each other, Rahul and Anjali would probably have fallen in love, however they were too busy enjoying themselves being best buddies! And then Tina (Ranee Mukherjee) the Principal's daughter came into their lives.
For Anjali, Tina was a third member of their gang, however, for Rahul, his life was never the same after meeting her. He fell in love with Tina. Anjali was finally beginning to fall in love with Rahul, and when she finally does manage to sum up the courage to tell Rahul about her feelings, Rahul tells her in his usual friendly manner, that he is falling in love with Tina. - Continuity: When Anjali reads the letter from her birth mother, the writing on the letter disappears and reappears between shots.
- Continuity: While dancing at the summer camp, Anjali is wearing a ring with AUM in her right hand's finger, however when she moves her hand on Rahul's face, she is wearing ring with a diamond. Then afterward, again the AUM ring appears.
- Continuity: In one scene where Anjali and Rahul are talking at school, Anjali is leaning on a phone booth. When she moves away, the receiver falls, In the next shot, it's in its place again.

- Twinkle Khanna was who the role of Tina was written for. After she turned it down, other actresses such as Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon, Aishwarya Rai and Karisma Kapoor were offered the role of Tina Malhotra.
- The name for the character Tina came from Twinkle Khanna who has the same nickname.
- During a bike riding sequence in one song, Kajol lost control of the bike and cut her knee quite badly. You can just see her losing control before the camera cuts out the shot. 'Kajol' hit the ground hard and actually lost consciousness for several minutes.
- During the first basketball game, we see Shahrukh Khan and Kajol "supposedly" jumping high in the air to shoot a basket. The hoop was actually a bit low, and they used trampolines to jump.
- Karan Johar wanted Rani Mukherjee to be dubbed due to her husky voice, not knowing that her voice would become her trademark.
- Director Karan Johar never considered his good friend Rani Mukherjee for the role of Tina. In fact, Rani read the script herself and went up to Karan saying, "I'm the only one able to do this role."
