Shah Rukh Khan and Sharad Kapoor are the leaders of the two rival gangs. Aishwarya Rai is Shah Rukh Khan's twin sister. Shah Rukh is in love with Priya Gill. Chandrachur Singh is Sharad Kapoor's younger brother who studies in a catering college in Bombay.
He comes to Goa to visit his brother and plans to go back and start a restaurant there. He sees Aishwarya and falls in love with her. Chandrachur gives up the idea of going back to Bombay and opens a bakery in Goa. When Shah Rukh comes to know about the romance between Aishwarya and Chandrachur, the fight between the gang turns more violent. How the conflict is resolved is the rest of the story.

- Shahrukh Khan sung the song "Apun Bola" Himself
- For the Shahrukh Khan song (which he sung himself), 'Mansoor Khan' was given the option of Apun Bola (which was in the movie) or Aati Kya Khandala (from the film Ghulam (1998)). Aati Kya Khandala ended up being a bigger hit.
- The movie was in the making for four years.
- The role of Prakash was originally offered to the director 'Mansoor Khan''s cousin, Aamir Khan; however, Aamir turned down the role because he felt that it was a very small role compared to Shahrukh Khan's role of Max.
- Kajol was the original choice for the role of Shirley.
- Aishwarya Rai wore minimal make-up and tanned her skin in order to look the part of a Goan.
- Shahrukh Khan wore blue contacts in the film in order to look more like Aishwarya Rai in the film.
- Aishwarya Rai was offered to sing the female portion in "Apun Bola," but she did not feel comfortable and was replaced by Goan singer Hema Sardesai.
